Escríbale a la Junta de BVSD →Both my young adult children were raised and educated in Boulder County moving through Douglass Elementary, Southern Hills Middle, and Fairview High (BVSD) as well as the University of Colorado, Boulder (both undergraduate and graduate levels). In this context my remarks are directed to Douglass Elementary. It is a true neighborhood school and without question, a remarkable community with an amazing principal, talented teachers and committed parents. The level of education is high with a commitment to excellence. It provided a solid academic and social foundation for both my kids. They were well prepared to move on. In addition, Douglass’ neighborhood school designation is unique in the sense that it connects a more widely dispersed student population (included neighborhoods which are connected through school busing). In this context, it has truly served in this unique role of successfully connecting Eastern Boulder County families for literally decades. The rationale for closing this school seems both shortsighted and irresponsible. It would be a mistake to close this incredible school. Thank you.
