Escríbale a la Junta de BVSD →I'm a Bear Creek parent, and I'm asking you to vote no on the current Resilient Schools proposal on Sept 22 and come back with a complete districtwide plan. What shocked me reading the details was how little the closures move the stated numbers. What disappoints me more is that the goal, the best learning opportunities for these kids, seems to have gotten lost. Projected savings are $3.5 to $4 million a year, under 1% of the budget, against up to $10 million in facility changes. Boulder's elementary buildings go from 63% full to 68%. A 2026 Stanford study of California closures found districts basically broke even and lost about 287 students within five years of a closure. I grew up in a district that closed schools and then leaned on "temporary" portables for over a decade while the closed buildings sat underused. Planning for Bear Creek to be at capacity on day one is a recipe for crowding, and I think we'd be over capacity fast. Before any irreversible decision, please finish the plan and show the savings net of transition costs, with the same analysis for the alternatives.
