My family moved to Broomfield from Brighton in June 2026. My three young children are finally starting to feel settled into their new schools. So far we are loving the neighborhood, community, schools, and more. We have felt an immediate connection to Broomfield and the schools. We have a current preschooler, who will start kindergarten next school year, a student at Birch Elementary (current 2nd grader), and a student at Aspen Creek (current 7th grader). We were absolutely heartbroken to learn of BVSD’s plan to address the declining enrollment by closing Birch. We live two blocks from Birch and my son has been so excited to ride his bike to and from school every day. This is a really big deal because he was not able to ride to his old school. He will also not be able to ride his bike to Kohl due to the distance and crossing Main Street. This summer and beginning of the school year has already been a huge transition for him and was really hard at times. We have seen him grow tremendously due to the changes he has gone through and while he has come a long way, I worry what too much constant instability could do to him. He loves Birch and was so proud to be a Birch Bulldog. He cried the night we told him he might have to go to another school next year. We figured kids would be talking about it at school and wanted him to hear it from us. He says he doesn’t want to have to start over again. He says he doesn’t want to live farther from his school and not be able to ride his bike anymore. We were told by another parent at the Birch Movie in the Park night, that the saying goes, “there are no bad teachers at Birch”, that they’ve only had the best experience with this specific school for their kids and are worried for what the future holds. We ask that the district reconsiders this closure and realize what it will do to families, especially ones that moved to the area due to the reputation of the schools, district, and community. Thank you.
