I grew up in Boulder, and my family moved back in part because of BVSD’s neighborhood schools. Douglass is a walkable community anchor—where children, families, teachers, and neighbors build lasting relationships. I understand that declining enrollment requires difficult decisions. But closing Douglass and splitting its students among three schools, while moving High Peaks into the building, does not feel aligned with BVSD’s values of meaningful family engagement, strong neighborhood communities, and putting students first. Before the September 22 vote, please ensure families receive clear boundary assignments, a Douglass-specific financial analysis, and a detailed transition plan for students and ICAN. If that information cannot be meaningfully reviewed in time, I respectfully ask that Douglass be removed from the vote or that the decision be delayed.
