Removing the elementary school will tear at the very fiber of our community. Our children went through Flatirons and are in their 30s now. The friendships that we, the parents, made are still strong today and we gather together and support each other still. We would not have these strong relationships without the neighborhood elementary school. We grew to know each other through everything and this is exactly what we need in our uncertain world of extreme weather (fire, flood and drought) and politics. We have a network that keeps us safe and healthy and it is BECAUSE of the school that brought us together. We all walked to school, kept an eye on each other and the kids as they became independent, supported each other like a small village. This is PRICELESS and is exactly what communities strive for. Pleas don’t remove the fiber and strength of our great city. Small class sizes are what we need more of!! The whole city of Boulder benefits from smaller stronger schools within walking distance of homes. Numbers ebb and flow and before we know it our younger children will be old enough to fill the classrooms. Also the relationship with the education students at CU works so well. The outdoor classroom and native plant gardens are tied to classroom curriculum. The time capsules await unearthing and re-opening and will bring students and parents together yet again. Please save Flatirons for the good of the city of Boulder. Let us be an example of how we can do this for all members of the community!
