Escríbale a la Junta →I’m Flatirons Class of 2010 and current fourth year medical student at Harvard. My family had at least one kid at Flatirons every year between 2004 and 2017. Because it played such a big part in our lives, I think about elementary school probably more than the average 27 year old, but only because Flatirons was such an exceptional place. I met my best friend Natalie in first grade and we still talk on the phone several times a week - having our shared neighborhood elementary school community growing up was the basis for the relationship that has carried me through so many highs and lows of the last two decades! Academically, Flatirons allowed me to explore and build confidence in the classroom, teaching me it was cool to be smart and work hard - lessons I brought first to Summit, then Boulder High, Amherst College, and now Harvard. Finally, the community aspect was amazing - I was just telling my friends yesterday that I never once rode a school bus to school; we didn’t have to because we could walk, scooter, or bike every morning. Even just getting to school on my own as an elementary schooler was a lesson in independence (and sometimes resilience when it was really snowy) I certainly would not be where I am today without the friendships, community, and love for learning I built at Flatirons, and it would be an incredible disservice to all of Boulder, and the hill in particular, to lose this wonderful school.
