Write to the Board →I think a long term and comprehensive plan would make a lot more sense to the community (like a five year roll out) so that people have time to prepare and students don’t switch schools only to have those schools close in a couple more years when more changes happen. Especially when it comes to the dual language schools and Middle Schools. I also think not a lot of thought was put into Douglass’ ICAN program, which draws in a number of students through open enrollment. This is a valuable program housed with specialized classrooms. It makes Douglass more than just a neighborhood school. Finally, it is unfair to compare the mile- radius around Douglass to other schools since it is surrounded by open space. It may not be walking distance from many students, but it’s still the closest school to a lot of people who are just outside that radius (including my family).
