Closing Douglas elementary school would have significant impact on students, families, teachers, and the entire community. It could mean longer commutes, larger class sizes, disruption to students’ education, and the loss of a school that has become an important part of our neighborhood. Before making such a permanent decision, I believe the district should fully consider the impact on our children and families and explore every possible alternative. Our elementary students deserve stability, strong relationships with their teachers, and a school community where they feel they belong. Please reconsider the proposed closure and listen to the families, students, teachers, and community members who are asking you to keep our school open.
