Write to the Board →I completely understand that declining enrollment and tightening budgets require BVSD to make difficult decisions, including potentially closing or consolidating schools. However, our community was blindsided by this proposal, and that is unacceptable. We have a thriving school with strong resources, an engaged community and much to offer students. A school that is functioning as a model for what we want public education to look like should be among the last schools considered for dismantling. I also question whether the financial benefit of closing this school is significant enough to justify the disruption it would cause. This is a community where many students and families are still carrying the effects of the Marshall Fire. The social and emotional cost of dismantling an important source of stability and community should weigh heavily in this decision. Before moving toward closure, I would like to see BVSD fully explore alternatives, including whether our school could welcome students from neighboring schools and serve a broader community of learners where they are sure to thrive.
