Write to the Board →The proposal was not developed in accordance to the recommendations of BVSD's own Long Range Advisory Committee. Furthermore, it disrupts the lives of about 1 in 8 kids in BVSD K-8 by shipping them to a different school next year. Savings? Nope -- a 1% annual budget savings is overwhelmed by the cost of executing the plan (which is 3-4 times greater). If there's a true and immediate budget crisis in BVSD -- this plan does not help, but rather leaves the district more in the hole next year. And what if enrollment declines even further as a result of implementing this plan -- in which case state funding will drop accordingly? That annual savings could be completely lost. Most importantly, this plan does not best serve our children -- breaking up the community at Douglass (an award winning school) by sending its kids to 3 different schools (2 of which did NOT meet the criteria of the LRAC) seems, at best, ill considered.
