Please vote NO to close Mesa Elementary. As a long-time homeowner/taxpayer in South Boulder, and a parent of 2 former Mesa Elementary students starting in 1994, the percentage of savings gained is microscopic compared with the adverse effect closure would have on the students, parents, and neighborhood -- overcrowding, lack of space for special needs children, disruption of continuity for the current students which may affect desire for learning. Over the years I have seen that BVSD is top-heavy with too many highly paid administrators -- shall we look at eliminating some of those positions first? If there are fewer elementary schools, administration should be culled. Question: why was a large amount of money spent to upgrade Mesa if it was known all along that the school might be closed? The district has wasted money and time for many years -- put a stop to that issue first.
